Christian Marcelo, new Quinoy CPA

Congratulations to Christian John Lomboy Marcelo for passing the licensure examinations for Certified Public Accountants held last month (May , 2009).  “Ian” is the younger of the two sons of Yolanda Lomboy (now Kgwd. Yolly Emocling) and Larry Marcelo.  His brother Marlon, who has a better “caliber”, is also a CPA, and has been working in a foreign company for some years now.

And who else should have a more watchful eye for the CPA test passers but our own achiever who made it to the 9^th place among the passers in 2006: Mr. Joselito Japson, currently identifying himself under the SGV company.  Before I could post this one, he blew the trumpet early that day with his email:

 

Hi Sir,

 

We have just received the result of the May CPA board examination this afternoon (please see the attached file). I would like to congratulate one of the passers, Christian John Lomboy Marcelo from Barangay Quirino, Maria Aurora. He is an alumnus of Quirino Elementary School, the 6th (i think) CPA the little elementary school has produced so far.

 

I hope you can identify other Aurorans who passed the notoriously difficult board examination.

PMA Class Valedictorian is an Aurora guy

On the way home after buying pandesal, I took a glimpse at the frontpage of my favorite broadsheet at the nearby stand and was surprised about the item entitled “Aurora boy is top PMA graduate”.  Curious, I eagerly got closer to read the news and upon reading the first paragraphs I had learned that his name is Karl Winston Cacanindin.   As far as I could remember, I had used to be hearing the surname in our hometown in Maria Aurora so it added to my curiosity and impatience to surf for it in the Inquirer online news.

 

All I got is that the guy graduated valedictorian from Barangay Mucdol in Dipaculao, both elementary and secondary, so I would presume he is a native of Barangay Mucdol, probably an Ilocano speaker like most Quinoys are.

 

At least not only a supertyphoon could put Aurora in the news, but an achievement and honor of leading the finest training school for national leaders as high as the PMA!

“Instant Kagawad”: son inherits father’s councilor post

As the untimely death of Kagawad Ruben Dacumos left a vacancy in the Sangguniang Barangay of Quirino, the body has instantly concurred for a replacement.  The new councilor of our barangay is Edgardo “Gary Boy/Edgar” Dacumos, the former kagawad’s eldest son.

 

Not an existing rule, but just allowable under the local government code.

 

According to Kagawad Yolly Emocling, it was Mayor Ariel Bitong who suggested that a qualified member of the family be appointed as a replacement before anybody else.  To this author’s knowledge, it is the municipal mayor who appoints someone to fill up a vacancy in the barangay council, provided concurred upon by the Sanggunian body concerned.

 

Dacumos took his oath of office as the new Kagawad of Sangguniang Barangay on Monday, February 2, 2009.

 

The new councilor Dacumos had been more famous as Quirino’s basketball player.  He is now facing a new game of different environment and teammates.  Dacumos is married to Rowena Viloria.  He is the father of the incumbent SK Chairman Jansenn Dacumos.
