2008 Athletic Meet not so sweet for Riversiders
Year 2008 was not for the Riverside in terms of achievement and opportunity in the athletic atmosphere.
In the District level that was held last year, despite another local hosting advantage, ECRMNHS fell to third place in the overall standing. MANHS grabbed the championship, followed by MCHS as the 1st runner up. Wesleyan and Dimanpudso cluster placed 5th while BAYCANIWEN made it to the 4th.
It is almost unusual to hear ECRMNHS trailing behind in the District Meet. For many years, the institution consistently dominated this athletic event. According to Mr. Freddie Gonzales, P.E. instructor at ECRMNHS, there are some factors that affected the performance of the school in the said games, but he declined to enumerate them. Even ECRMNHS’ secondary baseball contender which Gonzales was coaching for long years also fell third in the ranking.
After some years of consecutive hosting at Barangay Quirino, 2008 Provincial Meet hosting was shifted back to Baler. The main reason for this “executive decision” is still unknown to the author.
Nevertheless, Maria Aurora still emerged as the champion in the recent annual provincial event that was held last December 18 to 22.

With reports from Freddie Gonzales of ECRMNHS

MANHS has long been a threat to ECRMNHS considering its vast pool of talents, coaches and trainors. It’s financial capability would also add as a factor. As I have mentioned in http://www.doubleruled.wordpress.com, “emerging” schools has slowly replaced us in our place both in sports and academic competitions. We were once the greatest, hard to beat school that we even forget that the world is continuously changing. We failed to see the threat, and we failed to act accordingly when the threat attacked us. Our case is similar to the case of ABS-CBN and GMA. The former ruled the broadcasting industry for a very long time. It applied the same strategy, same format, same programming for years, until GMA woke it up. But it was too late for it to open its eyes to reality, that GMA is already ruling the race and left ABS-CBN way way behind.
I hope this poor performance in sports will serve as an eye-opener to all staff of the school. We need to cope up with the change to redeem the position that our great school highly deserves!
You are absolutely right Japson.
